Meet Capt. Scott Barmby

Capt. Scott Barmby has spent decades fishing and guiding on the Chesapeake Bay. His passion for fly fishing, light tackle fishing, and teaching has made him a trusted guide for anglers looking to experience the Bay the right way.

In addition to running Rock On Charter Fishing, Capt. Scott operates and instructs at Orvis-affiliated fly-fishing schools, helping anglers learn proper casting techniques, fly selection, leaders, knots, and on-the-water strategy.

Whether guiding a family trip on the Bay, teaching a casting clinic, or hosting destination fly-fishing trips, Capt. Scott’s focus is always the same: great instruction, a relaxed environment, and putting anglers on fish.

Capt Brian McCormick

Captain Brian McCormick's passion for fishing began at an early age, growing up alongside his father while renting boats out of Sandy Point state park. Those formative years on the water instilled in him a deep love for the sport, leading to a life shaped by the rhythms of the Chesapeake Bay. In 1993, he purchased his first boat, marking the beginning of a lifelong adventure in fishing that would only grow.

After a career in the automotive business, Brian made a pivotal decision in 2009 to leave that world behind to dedicate more time to his family, raising his three boys. This transition allowed him to turn his passion into a profession. In 2019, he, transformed his love for the water into a charter service.

Captain McCormick is currently navigating his second charter boat, a 23-foot Parker, and is as comfortable maneuvering through the Chesapeake Bay as he is casting flies on a tranquil Montana trout stream. Whether he's pursuing red drum in the Southern Chesapeake or seeking out the perfect cast on a quiet river, Brian's respect for natural resources stands as a testament to his commitment to sustainable fishing and conservation.

With years of experience and an unwavering passion for the sport, Captain Brian continues to inspire others, creating lasting memories on the water and promoting a love for fishing in every customer he serves.

REX AND GRAYSON

Rex Barmby

Rex has been fishing and hunting since when he could hold a rod or shoot a gun or bow. His grandfather was a bass fishing guide on Lake Anna, VA, and was a founding member of the Potomac Bassmasters Club. Laura, his mother, still fishes with the custom rawhide rod that Rex’s grandfather had made for her when she was 10. You might say fishing is in his DNA.

Rex has a great knowledge of both offshore and inshore fishing. He has competed in tournaments on both the ocean and the Bay. He brings experience and knowledge of offshore fishing to the Bay, chasing trophy fish.

The USCG Captains' license process is not easy, and Rex has completed the classes and has to take all the required tests to be a 100-ton master captain. He is in the process of completing the few remaining steps to get his USCG credentials.

Rex has a 7-year-old son and loves to take kids fishing and work with folks new to the sport of fishing. Come spend a day on the water with Captain Scott and soon-to-be Captain Rex.

GUIDE 2

Captain Giovanni Gargano

Meet Captain Giovanni Gargano, a lifetime local of the Chesapeake Bay. One with a passion for the Bay and surrounding waters that are hard to come by. Since he was young, he has spent his time putting around on Jon boats, kayaks, and any other means of being able to spend time on the water that he has grown to love.

After leaving the software sales industry in January, he decided it was time to execute his lifelong goal of putting friends, family, and clients on fish and become a USCG licensed captain.

With over 2600 hours on his Hobie Fishing Kayak in the last 3 years alone, it's pretty easy to tell that the obsession for spending time on the water nearly consumes him.

Whether chasing Trophy Stripers throughout the winter months, Speckled Trout in the late spring/fall, and the drag peeling Bull Redfish, Cobia, and Sheepshead throughout the summer – to say the least, he is hooked!

“The options on the Chesapeake are endless throughout the year, and I’m here to see as much of them as I can. The excitement of catching fish still allows me to experience that same rush of adrenaline I got as a child fishing with my father – and if anything, it has grown tenfold. Watching and helping others catch fish, no matter the experience level, brings me that same exact feeling of joy and excitement.”

~  Giovanni Gargano

Laura Barmby

Laura Barmby

Laura was born into a fishing family. She grew up on Lake Anna, VA fishing with her dad, who was one of the first guides on the lake and also guided on the Potomac River. They started fishing offshore when she was 10 years old, and she got her first custom fishing rod from her dad the same year.

Fast-forward 10 years, and she gets married to another fishing nut, Captain Scott. Laura and Scott have two adult children, Rex and Julia. Laura loves to help out when kids and ladies are on trips and has fished tournaments as a member of the Light Tackle Ladies fishing team.
