General Charter Questions
Do we need a fishing license
No, we pay for a license that covers everyone on the boat.
Are your trips family and kid-friendly?
Yes. We regularly run family and kid-friendly trips and enjoy helping new anglers catch their first fish.
Do I need fishing experience?
No experience is required. Our trips are designed for all skill levels, including first-time anglers and families. Instruction is provided on every trip.
How long are your fishing trips?
Trip lengths vary from 4 to 8 hrs. We have both morning and afternoon start times. Additional time can be added to extend your fishing experience.
All our spring and summer trophy Redfish and Cobia trips are 6 hours, but additional time can be added for an additional charge. Because we only run one trip a day during these seasons, this can be an on the water decision if needed during your trip!
What do we need to bring?
Water and Gatorade are provided… We have a cooler for your adult beverages on the boat if you wish to bring some. Bring whatever makes your day on the water enjoyable. We often recommend your favorite snacks or drinks (no glass please), a hat, quality polarized sunglasses like SMITH, nonslip shoes (no black soles please), appropriate clothing for the weather (including rain gear if it's in the forecast), sunscreen (please do not bring spray sunscreen), a camera to capture the epic moments. Also, any medication you may need.
How many people can you accommodate?
There is room for up to 6 people on both our state-of-the art 27’ Pathfinder and 25’ Pair Custom center console boats. Yes, we do have a toilet on both our boats if needed. We have plenty of seating and room for everyone to fish!! The bolsters/rail height is set perfectly for kids to be safe on the water and adults to fight and land” BIG Fish.”
What do you provide?
We are all professional USCG and Maryland DNR licensed and first aid certified captains. We love to fish and love to see our clients catch a ton of fish. We provide the best fishing experience on the Chesapeake Bay. All top-of-the-line tackle and bait is on board for you to use. We are on the pro programs or sponsored by some of the best tackle manufacturers in the world. Our boats have the latest and best electronics, radars, equipment, and tackle plus our captains know the best “spots” to make your day successful.
Our charters come with a fishing license for all guests, all gear necessary, water and ice in a cooler and include fish cleaning services.
How much do your trips cost?
Our trips vary in cost because we have lots of different trips. Family and kids, walk-on trips, custom trips, fly-fishing trips all are different price levels. 100% FAIR pricing PLUS great and safe trips for ALL our clients is our philosophy.
We tailor every trip to make sure our client’s charter trip exceeds expectations and our captains go the extra mile to facilitate that!!
Where do we launch?
Fish have tails and we move when they move. We have different meeting locations depending on the fish, the time of year and weather. We launch anywhere from Annapolis to Point Lookout in Maryland. Most trips launch from either Marina West in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland or the public boat ramp in Solomons Island, Maryland.
Can we keep the fish?
In season and legal size, yes. BUT We strongly encourage Catch and Release on our trips! Keeping legal fish for the dinner is 100% up to you.
Do you clean the fish?
We will clean and bag the fish for you, and this is included in your trip.
What if there is bad weather?
Mother Nature, our captains and the USCG will make the call. A Small Craft Warning is a no-go situation, 100%. Our captains have the final call on the weather. If conditions are less than ideal for the scheduled trip, we will first offer a different location or style of trip. If the weather forces us to cancel you will be given the chance to reschedule your trip or receive a refund on your deposit.
What if we need to reschedule or cancel?
We’re very flexible as long as it's done within reason and covered by our policy. Rescheduling is subject to availability. We understand life happens so we will do our best to work with changes in your schedule. Please review our cancellation policy prior to booking your trip.
Is gratuity included?
The captains work hard to make sure you have a great time and a 15-20% gratuity is customary to show your appreciation for their hard work and are not included in our pricing. They are guides, not gods. They cannot control the weather or make fish jump on your hook. They are 100% committed to providing a 5-STAR charter trip for every angler. If there is anything they can do to ensure you have a great trip, just let them know.
What if we reach our limit?
They are different fish we can target on almost all trips, and our work is not done and your trip is not over if we reach a limit on one species of fish.
What if we break equipment?
If equipment is lost or neglectfully broken we would welcome reimbursing us at replacement value.
What species can we catch on your trips?
Our most common targets include striped bass (rockfish), redfish, bluefish, perch, and other seasonal Chesapeake Bay species. Target species depend on the time of year and conditions.
Is the Chesapeake Bay good for fly fishing?
Yes. The Chesapeake Bay offers excellent fly fishing for striped bass, redfish, and other species, especially during warmer months when fish move shallow.
Do you provide fly fishing gear?
Yes. We provide fly rods, reels, lines, and flies. You’re also welcome to bring your own gear if you prefer.
I’m new to fly fishing — is that okay?
Absolutely. Many of our fly-fishing guests are beginners. We provide clear, hands-on instruction to help you learn and succeed.
What skill level are your fly-fishing trips best for?
We guide beginners, intermediate anglers, and advanced fly fishers. Trips are tailored to your experience and goals.
