Our school at the Orvis Hill Country Shooting Grounds is proud to be part of the Orvis family and help carry on their traditions. At the Hill Country Fly-Fishing School, we’ll help a beginner master the basics or an experienced fly-caster get to the next level.
Situated in the rolling hills of southern Pennsylvania in the town of Blue Ridge Summit, Orvis Hill Country encompasses more than 500 acres devoted to fly fishing, sporting clays and wing shooting pursuits. Orvis Hill Country is only 1.5 hours from the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Introduction to gear: line, rod and reel
Presentation of the Orvis Progressive Method to Fly Casting
Casting sessions on shooting line, false casting, and roll casting and double haul
Students casting on our private stocked pond. Demonstration on hook-setting and fish fighting techniques. Hands on fishing flies and catch and release fishing.
Seminars on fly selection, handling fish and landing fish
Knot tying discussion and practice
Catered lunch and time to chat with classmates

What is the cost?
$389 includes the classroom instruction, all casting sessions and lunch.
If you want to learn to fly-cast, or you already fly-fish and want to improve your casting and all-around fly-fishing knowledge, plus learn some tips on catching and fighting larger fish, join us at the Orvis Chesapeake Bay Fly Fishing School.
What is included in the price of the school?
Use of Orvis fly rods/reels, leaders, flies, and where necessary waders and vests. Lunch is also included at most locations
How many people will be in the class?
The capacity is 8-12 students. The student to instructor ratio is 4:1.
